How We Do It
Gardening
At Sole's Preschool, gardening takes the form of an urban community garden project that allows students to explore cultivation and derive joy from growing a variety of aromatic herbs and flowers. Students learn about the growth of the flowers we plant and, most importantly, acquire respect for plants as living beings with which we share the world.
Math and Science
Mental math and mathematical operations are not the focus of math and science at our preschool. Rather, we use these two topics as a guiding force for thinking about and resolving problems logically and creatively. Our approach to this is through the STEAM model and the scientific method.
Music
We expose our students to many different music genres, rhythms, and compositions. While learning songs, our students follow rhythms and grasp the basics of how to play a musical instrument, skills that supplement deep language learning.
Psychomotricity
The aim of these sessions is to improve our students' ability to concentrate, follow directions, and control their bodies through a top-down approach to body movement, whereby our students begin with larger movements and progress to smaller movements until they reach total concentration.
Art & Craftsmanship
Sole's Preschool envisions art as a tool and a medium through which children express both their artistic creativity and themselves. Art is oriented toward exploring different materials, techniques, and our own artistry while learning to respect, like with gardening, the uniqueness of everyone's creativity.
Physical Education & Yoga
We are strong advocates of physical activity, as it allows our students to grow and learn about the world and themselves. Physical education at Sole's Preschool is designed to help our students as they grow and develop their bodies, and yoga is used to help our students control their body and their breathing, which in turn help them control their emotions and find inner joy.
Daily Life Skills
Using utensils, serving food, washing items, cleaning, and dressing are just a few of the many activities that our students practice in order to gain independence and autonomy and prepare for everyday life.
